The Four Seasons

"Spring"
Was thinking of another title, such as "the song of spring" since she is listening to birds.

"Summer"
With this, I really wanted to convey a ideal summer, not like in Tokyo where it is sweaty, hot and humid... x_x 

"Fall"
In Japan, there is a saying called "Aki ha yonaga" which means the night it long in the fall. I wanted to show the early end of days.

"Winter"
The other title I was thinking for this, was "warmth in winter."

It is weird, but it the coldness is worse in Tokyo then when I was in Milwaukee during winter or Finland in Feb. Of course it is way colder in temp there in Tokyo, but maybe it is because indoors it is warmer, or just because you wear a lot you are warmer... But it gets to me more when I'm sitting in a kind of cold office room for the whole day.

Finland

Illustration for a article on traveling to the Lapland of Finland. The article will focus on the Saami culture and the Aurora. The middle illustration depicts Saami people's legend that the Artic fox creates a spark which lights a fire in the sky creating an aurora. The one below is a simple map of Finland.

Lucia's Light

An illustration drawn for a story in mind about St. Lucia's Day in Denmark. During Nazi Germany's occupation of Denmark in WWII, "[t]he tradition was directly imported from Sweden by initiative of Franz Wend, secretary of Föreningen Norden, as an attempt 'to bring light in a time of darkness'" (Wikipedia). St. Lucia herself is a saint from Italy, apparently, who was to be married to a Roman man (meaning he wasn't Christian) and she refused, and died being faithful to her belief. I looked up a little bit, but it seems a little iffy how this Italian saint became so popular in Europe.

In either rate, I thought this could be a cover of a children's story, based on this true story.

"The White Wolf" illustration without the title and revised a bit.

The White Wolf

Cover for "The White Wolf," a fairy tale from Andrew Lang's "The Grey Fairy Tales."

The story is kind of like the frog prince. The King is asked for a wild flower wreath for his princess, and found a white wolf with one on his head. When the King asks for the wreath, the wolf asks the King to give the wolf the next thing King sees when he is going back to the castle. The King ends up seeing his youngest daughter, and the wolf takes her away... But the wolf ends up being not what he first seemed...

Dog Sleigh

Done for an assignment to draw something I love, and something I hate. This is my "love" illustration. I love snow, so it is winter scape. I thought it would only make sense if my "hate" was a direct contrast with the one for love, so I chose "humid hot summer."

Napoleon on a donkey

Parody of "Napoleon Crossing the Alps." The painting shows Napoleon gallantly riding his horse on a stormy day crossing the Alps, but "In reality the crossing had been made in fine weather and Bonaparte had been led across, mounted on a mule, by a guide" (from Wikipedia).
